    <title>The Brijuni Islands are known for their scenic beauty</title>
    <description>On the islands there are some 680 species of plants, many of which are endangered in the rest of Istria are here and can develop freely. Known for its large oak forests. In addition to various indigenous Mediterranean species such as holly, myrtle, strawberry trees, Mastixstr&amp;auml;uchen, manna ash or broom-pagans live here also imported species like pines, cedars and pines diverse as Lebanon, eucalyptus, fir, cypress trees or mammoth. Also exotic plants like palm trees and cacti are planted generously. 

A special attraction is the so-called ancient olive dar. Based on the C-14 method has been found that this some 1600 years old.
Over 250 species of birds, including rare cormorants, can be found here. To wild mammals are found on the island of hare and deer and imported European mouflon. 

There is also an ethno-park, where a typical Istrian yard with Istrian ox (Bo&amp;scaron;karin), Istrian sheep (Pramenka), donkeys and goats will be presented. 

One of the biggest attractions of the islands is the safari park at the northern end of Veli Brijun; since 1979 are elephants, llamas, zebras, Nilgauantilopen, Somali sheep, Indian sacred cows and donkeys presented.
There are remnants from all time periods - ranging from the dinosaurs, which in several places on the island have left their mark. The islands were already inhabited in ancient times. Archaeological traces indicate an initial colonization by Illyrians around 3000 BC out. From the Roman era ruins of the villa maritima in Val Catena Bay / Uvala Verige and other villae Rusticae on the island. A Byzantine Castrum served to protect against pirates.
